Welcome To The Cowgirl Artist Homepage
Born into a farm family, Marilyn's childhood revolved
around haystacks, holsteins, and green pastures. Her fondness for all God's creatures was
apparent at an early age. Marilyn was always bringing home a stray
kitten or pup. While other girls played with dolls, Marilyn was feeding
calves or helping her dad at the dairy. Her favorite animal was and always will be
...the horse. Before she ever sat at a school desk, she sat upon a horse. It
has been a partnership that has never dissolved. Her favorite breed of horse is the Paint, of which she has been raising for the last several years. The foals are a wonderful inspiration for her artwork. All the drawings below are original pencil works. Many are actual mares and foals at the ranch. Marilyn says she likes to " capture the moment " with her drawings. She has had no formal training. Her family says she started drawing as a toddler, usually on the walls of her room. As a teen Marilyn had the opportunity to work on several real, working cattle ranches in Arizona. She experienced 12 hour days in the saddle, roundups, dragging calves to the fire, branding, and starting colts. In 1983-84, Marilyn drove a horsedrawn wagon from Dublin, Texas to Prescott, Arizona. A trip of over 1200 miles. She has written a story of the account in a book called " Buffalo Chips and Co." You can order the book from the www.buffalochipsandco.com website.
Today, if you stop by to visit, Marilyn will introduce you to her horse Pumpkin and perhaps hook up Snickers the pony for a short buggy ride. Call for an appointment. Happy Trails!
